Hi guys,

I'm thinking of upgrading my PC.....
been getting a lot of fps drops and stuttering from a few games that are from what I'v heard are CPU dominant (csgo, escape from trakov... ), and i know the GPU isnt the problem because its a gigabyte GTX 1060 gaming 6gb - not the best but should be able to handle these games easily -

these are my current specs:
i7-3770
dell opriplex 9010 motherbord
12 gb DDR3

I want to upgrade to this:

combo 1 :
i5-8400 + MSI B360 GAMING PLUS
https://www.newegg.com/global/sa/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.3824733

or

Combo 2:
i5-8400 + GIGABYTE Z370 HD3
https://www.newegg.com/global/sa/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.3823846

I will also be adding

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133
https://www.newegg.com/global/sa/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231884&ignorebbr=1

do you guys have any suggestions ?

p.s
I will not be overclocking the CPU

Me personally would just pull the 3770 and 12gb not to mention all your other parts and get yourself a new motherboard that supports the CPU. I did the same thing with a 9010 MT I got off ebay for 150 plopped in an Asus board I got off Ebay ($75) as well and let me tell ya the difference was night and day! Then with the cash ya save upgrade the video as the 3770 is still a quad core 8 thread CPU which in my experience isn't all that far off of 6th,7th even 8th gen i7 (I have 3 of the afformentioned) in gaming alone! Don't give into the oh new is better moniker its not always that true (may see a 10-15% jump in FPS which for the price of new platform like your talking isn't a good price to performance ratio imho) But this is just my 2 pennies! But if your adamant going z370 without a "K" series CPU then kinda a waste of $$ id stick with the b360 for savings but z370 gives ya wiggle room if you ever upgrade the CPU for OC'n! BTW you will need a new case for the motherboard if you decide to keep the I7-3770 as dell is a chump with the proprietary connectors for panels!

You shouldn't be dropping fps in those games.

Thanks for the reply guys

I'v seen youtube videos domenstrating the i-7 3770 gtx 1060 combo on multiple games and they were really smooth ...

I know the i7-3770 isnt that bad of a CPU but i'v had it for 7 years now, so I think the issue is that time is taking its tole on the CPU...

I'v tried everything to get rid of these half a second stutters ... but nothing worked ...
and when i'm playing something competitive like csgo ... that slight stutter does effect my gameplay... I didnt have this issue a few years ago even with a low end GPU (amd radeon 7850 hd 2gb)...

also I want something that will last me a few more years if I want to make upgrades in the future

ye mate I moved everything to new case as my previous would not fit the GTX 1060... and now I have to deal with a message everytime I turn on my PC coz of the wiered dell motherboard and front panel issues ..
this is the new case I use currently:

exactly man ... it goes lower than 100 FPS when in gunfights ...

Can you check your temps? Cpu's don't wear out. They either die or become unstable and no longer let the system work properly. Since yours still works it's fine.
Also what your current psu?

Jaslion:
Here are my full PC specs:
I7-3770
Gigabyte Gtx 1060 gaming g1
SSD 960 GB (I even installed csgo here)
HDD 1 tb
EVGA supernova 850 Watts 80+ platinuim
Corsair vengeance 8gb DDR3

The CPU reaches no more than 68 c while playing..

The stutters now have increased....

Have you ever tried a reinstall of windows?
