In my experience with a system turning on by itself, the PSU was causing it. I switched out the PSU and problem solved. Can't really say if the unit is bad or a short (somewhere on the build) is causing the system to power on. If you have another PSU perhaps try it. Or maybe reconnect/reinstall the current unit.
ok i will try that thanks for the info badge i appreciate your help and the quick response
In my case, I switched out the PSU for a new unit and the 'mysterious' system start up in the middle of the night ceased. It was driving me silly. I would shut down the system and come back hours later and it would be powered on. I then RMA'd the PSU in question and got the unit back. It's the same unit (PCP&C has their own service factory). I have not reinstalled the RMA'd unit as yet. I'm good, problem solved.
Get into BIOS setup and see if you have any settings that allow the PC to turn on for some event - like mouse movement, keyboard stroke, wake-on-lan, etc.
I have changed the PSU and checked the BIOS and they are fine ill try it tonight and see if it stays off 10/3/09 thanks again for the info. guys ill let you know the outcome tomorrow
