Hi All,

This is my first time ever building a PC, so bear with me :)
I recently purchased an MSI Cubi 1.9Ghz 3805u to setup as a HTPC

I bought 2 sticks of Corsair Value Select 4GB DDR3L (1600 Mhz) 1.35v RAM - CMSO4GX3M1C1600C11
and 120 GB Kingston msata ssd: SMS200S3/120G

Both match the specs of the system

Setup was relatively easy, installed RAM & SSD.

Plugged in the power cable and tried to start it up, no power light showing when the AC plug was inserted.

Pressed the power button, no blue light on power button or no HDD activity light.
No signal showing on my TV via HDMI. Tried another HDMI TV, same issue
BIOS won't show on either TV

Tried booting with only 1 stick of RAM, testing it in both slots

Power adapter itself has green light showing, when the AC plug is inserted to the Cubi it powers the inserted USB (blue light showing USB stick). Tried another AC plug, still the same
Seems to be power going to the USB ports.

Have read a lot about issues with RAM, have ordered crucial 4GB ram CT7700404 (said it would be compatible with Cubi on their site).

Was just wondering if the blue power light should still show on boot up even if the RAM is incorrect.? Should the fans not spin/power light show if the system can't POST due to incorrect RAM

Is my Cubi defective? Any tests I can run to check.
Would greatly appreciate any help/support that you can give.

Thanks a million
Shane

If you can RMA the product do it, that certainly doesn't sound normal. In these cases, it's best not to mess with it as Warranty will think you screwed it up. That sounds like a dead motherboard, if you're claiming your power brick is working fine. Either way, try and RMA it. Don't screw around with it too much.

Thanks for the quick reply miggtt699, much appreciated.

I will probably return the device and get a replacement or refund.

Was just wondering if I have a bad or incompatible stick of RAM inserted what happens exactly.

Will any of the components i.e. Fan, Power light work before the POST fails?

Do you think a stick of compatible RAM could fix the issue?

If the motherboard has failed, will power still go to the USB ports as in my case?

Thanks again

Well as far as I know the USB Power us delivered by the power brick, so if your motherboard is toast, doesn't necessarily mean it won't have USB power. Then again I could be wrong, but again, as I said, it is best to return it and get another one, don't want to risk it getting broken even worse and they don't take it back.

Also, as far as I'm aware, RAM does not stop a computer from booting up, it can only go as far as not doing the POST.

Hi Shane,
I just received my msi Cubi 001 (i3) and have a similar problem. When I have two Kingston 8GB cards installed I get no video signal (also using HDMI to my TV). I removed one of the memory cards and then I get the video signal.
The memory cards I purchased were exactly what msi recommended. I've posted a request for assistance to msi but most likely I'll be returning the Cubi. Besides this significant issue, I find the fan very noisy. When I researched this mini PC, many people said the fan was nearly silent, however it's far noisier than my laptop. Also, the documentation is very poor.
