MSI desktop displays black screen with underscore.

Hi, I’ve brought a gaming desktop second hand - it worked fine as I had played on it but the next day (to current) it has only managed to boot the MSI screen then immediately goes to a black screen with a flashing underscore. I’ve tried pressing F8 but it doesn’t do anything.

Help would be very much appreciated.

My specs are;
Intel i5 2.80Ghz
16Gb ram
MSI p55-cd53 motherboard
Amd xfx r7970
Two 500gb hdd
Windows 10 pro

That sounds like the drive failed with the OS on it.
If so you should still be able to boot into BIOS.

I believe you are correct - after doing plenty of research. What could be the cause of this? I've read that there could be a loose connection, I've ensured that there isn't. What is an 'OS'?

I have managed to reach the BIOS, but unsure as to what to do there?

Also, I'd like to add, it has came up in the load up with 'CMOS CHECKSUM BAD'.

Reset CMOS and if that don't work then replace the battery on the motherboard.
