msi display port

please help -_- ive got the msi ge73vr 7re raider, it has a gtx 1060 6gb i7 7th gen 16bg ram and i dont know what version my display port is. its a laptop and i want a new monitor but i really dont want it to just be 60hz 120hz at least. does anyone know if i can output 120hz with it? i really dont know and its driving me mad

Honestly if your GPU has display port and monitor has display port. You shouldn't need any adapters or anything! Just a display port cable, monitor and GPU that has display port.

You want to avoid using adapters as it could lower the performance output or downscale resolutions etc... plus it wont be compatble with gsync or freesync.

isnt that the 1.3? apparently 1.2 can only do 4k 60hz
 


thanks for the effort to help me so much, i really appreciate it. im new ish to pc and dont know too much. you seem like you really know youre stuff though. what do you make of all this? go for a 120hz monitor? im not bothered about 4k 1080p will do and if i do go for a monitor what cablels and adaptors will i need? im just getting lost with it all a bit -_-
