[SOLVED] MSI Dragon software will not install

Solution
Then don't bother and install latest version as is. To be sure, back up C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file. And if it appears changed after install, replace it from backup.
Are you installing the latest version from here?

https://www.msi.com/Landing/dragon-center-download/nb

Are you installing as administrator?

Also, is Windows and your main drivers fully up to date?

That does not work either. I will try shutting down AV and see if that helps. BTW, the link you gave was for the same version that I tried earlier. I tried the download from the link you provided anyway, just in case it would work.

Is this a hacked file or is it safe?

On the one hand one would expect downloads on the MSI site to be safe, but on the other hand, why does the MSI Dragon software need to modify the Windows Hosts file? It does seem a tad suspicious. If you're at all concerned then wait a week or so and download the software again just in case something malicious has found its way onto the MSI download servers.

If it is safe how can I install it?

If you're determined to proceed then you can turn off Windows Security temporarily so head over to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows security -> Open Windows Security -> Virus and Threat Protection -> Manage Settings. -> toggle "Real-time Protection" to the Off position. Remember to re-enable it when you've completed the software installation.

This indicates a possible malware threat. What antivirus/anti-malware application are you using?

Vipre AdvancedSecurity, however I have scanned the file with it and found nothing wrong.
Windows Defender is what is stopping the install. I turned off Defender and Microsoft still flags SettingsModifier:Win32/HostsFileHijack and stops the install.

I suspect it is a Windows software problem. Not certain what else I can turn off in Windows to stop this.

I have been trying since January 1, 2021 to install MSI Dragon. Every time I download the file it has exactly the same name and when I try to install it I get the same problem flagged.

RE: Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows security -> Open Windows Security -> Virus and Threat Protection -> Manage Settings. -> toggle "Real-time Protection" to the Off position.

When I get to Virus & threat protection there is no "Manage Settings" button. I have a "Manage providers" button [link] and it tells me that VIPRE Advanced Security is my anti virus and is turned on, same for Firewall. However, it is not VIPRE Advanced Security giving the "SettingsModifier:Win32/HostsFileHijack" flag, it is Microsoft.

I checked the MSI Dragon download with VIPRE Advanced Security and found no problems. However, even though Windows Defender Antivirus is turned off Microsoft still flags the software.
