On boot up my MSI motherboard throws the 9C error code at me and then after five minutes it changes to 92 for about 3 minutes. How can I reduce these boot times
I have a MSI H81M-P33 motherboard.
I know 9C means incompatible USB device, but I don't understand why it resolves itself.

Hey there, MeepsterNotchy!

I'd recommend you try to resolve the boot-up time issue by resetting BIOS. The 9C error code indicates that there is some sort of a USB problem. The system could be looking for a USB device to boot from, so make sure you have set the boot priority properly to your OS drive (SSD/HDD). It might be a USB device that is already connected to the system. Your mobo should have both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, so I'd try swapping the ports where your external devices are connected to and see if the error will proceed.

Keep in mind that the BIOS reset will get the settings back to factory defaults, so you might need to re-configure any manual changes you have made in the BIOS interface.

Give these a try and...

I heard Razer keyboards can cause the 9C error. Should I just unplug it every time I boot up?

Hey there again, @ MeepsterNotchy!

I think that would be a pretty annoying thing to do every time you boot up the system. If it's the USB-connected keyboard, you can simply try using a PS2 adapter for it and see if that fixes the issue. Another thing would be changing the USB port where the keyboard is connected and see how the system will boot then.

Hope it helps.

Resetting the BIOS sadly did not resolve the issue. The strange thing is, it still happens when NO USB devices are plugged in, and USB is in end of the boot order.

This seems pretty odd, @MeepsterNotchy! You could try more extensive troubleshooting on the system then. I'd suggest you disconnect the components and leave only one stick of RAM, remove any expansion cards, etc. Start up the system. I hope the error doesn't pop. Afterwards, start adding the hardware components one by one progressively, until you see which one will cause the '9C error'. I'd also suggest you check this tutorial from the community on how to troubleshoot the whole system.

Let me know how it goes! :)

I will try that. Thanks for all your time and help. I hadn't added any new components before this started happening, it just randomly started doing one day.

I bought a new case (Corsair 750D) and that seemed to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the help!
