MSI Gamer X 1070 vs. 1070ti power consumption

Comparing the results of Tom's 1070ti review and their 1070 roundup, it looks like the two MSIs consume pretty much the exact same amount of juice, within literally a couple of watts of each other.

Do I read that right?

the difference in power consumption is not supposed to be huge.
After all, they are based on the same chip. since a 1070 have a more cut down version of the GPU it consumes a bit less.

Isn't the 1070Ti sort of closer to being a cut-down 1080 than to a beefed up 1070?

all 3 are made from the same physical silicon chip.
1070 and 1070Ti are using GDDR5 while 1080 using GDDR5X
rest of the difference is how many parts of the GPU are disabled.
On the release, the 1070 was the cut down 1080. so you can look at 1070Ti as less cut down 1080 or a beefed 1070 - whatever is more convenient.
