hi. I have bought a motherboard MSI gaming 5 and 16gb ram 2400mhz one stick only. My questions are: can i use only one stick? do i need to overclock the mb to make it run the ram at 2400 mhz??

You can use one stick of ram, no problem. You can enable XMP in BIOS to get the memory to run at it's spec'd frequency and timings
