So, i've got a new graphics card, the HD 4850 by powercolor. but i wanted more juice so i got a GeForce GTX 1050 from MSI, the Gaming X one. Now i've been wondering, Will this work? I've seen that the GeForce GTX 1050 runs on PCI-E 3.0, but my motherboard only has 2.0. Will this affect performance? and by how much? Will it be any better then the HD 4850? Please let me know, i have 14 days to return the GTX 1050.

Solution
While I agree the core2Quad will affect the performance it should fair well when overclocked.

The 1050 is just a bit slower than the GTX680 which in turn is slower than the AMD 7970, I saw a review on Guru 3d ... cant find the link...
Where the performance when the core 2 quad was @ 3Ghz the performance loss wasn't terrible though clearly apparent.

Nice upgrade, gaming should be night and day where the games do not rely on the cpu too much.
It will work. PCIE 2.0 wont hurt performance, but a Q6700 will bottleneck a 1050 possibly pretty severely depending on the game. It will certainly be better than the 4850 especially if you play low demand or older games that don't rely on the cpu so much. Newer AAA tiles like GTA V, Fallout 4, Battlefield 1, etc may struggle with a Q6700.

No dont waste your money on another core 2 cpu, it simply isnt worth it, overclock the q6700 as far it will go and be happy with that. Anything more is a waste.

True. But you guys dont know, but i found this 2008 prebuilt on a garage sale, bought it for 30 bucks, smacked in my old 600w PSU(spire one), and addded an SSD and 2TB HDD. Now, i try to upgrade it because it's my main and only quad core windows rig(the rest are single core dinosaurs). So i might be getting an AMD A8-7600 and Gigabyte mobo with FM2+ socket but idk...

Save more money and forget about the A8 as well.
