MSI gpu and Asus motherboard; compatible?

I really like the look of the msi gtx 970, BUT my motherboard is an asus z97-A. This may be a dumb question, but are they compatible even though they're from differant manufacturers? Am I missing out on any 'bonus' if I mix manufacturers?Or would there be any glitches if I do?
