just bought the msi gtx 1070 armor OC 8GB , was wondering if its compatible with my pc, my specs

Yea should work well with that set up, if you could add more ram lol. I have 2600k with my 1070 i run all games max with 1080p great fps. If you can over clock your cpu to around 4.4 ghz at least

Not on 1080p.

It all depends on a game.

I'm running i7-3770k with gtx 1080 @4k without a problem on all recent games.

what about on 1440p, with my cpu, how much less perfomence am i likely to get

If you over clock the 2600k it will be perfectly fine for 1440p as well

The cpu is under less load at higher resolutions, increasing the resolution would only decrease any cpu bottleneck due to the load being shifted to the gpu. And like others have said, whether you see any cpu bottlenecking will depend on the game.
