Hi there,

I was wondering if someone would be able give some advice with regards to my card. I'm reaching temperatures of 80C under full burn playing Dead Space 3 for example. It seems to idle quite well (30-35C)

I've seen general reviews stating rough 60-65C under load. So I'm thinking there might be something wrong.

Some info I think you may need:

Ambient room temp: 25C
Case: Switch 810, 3 fans top, 1 exhaust, 4 fans front, 1 bottom fan (all 140mm)
GPU: factory OC of 1100MHz
MB: Asus P8Z68-V Pro
CPU: i5 2500K @ 4.5GHz + V6GT cooler.

If someone else is using the same card your advice would help A LOT!

Thanks

Are you using a program like Afterburner or Precision? With either of those you can set up a more aggressive fan profile to bring those temps back down to normal levels.

Are all of those fans intake? I only see one specifically mentioned as exhaust.

My personal setup is Front/Bottom or Side as intake, and Rear/Top as exhaust. I've got 2x200mm + 120mm Exhaust, and 1 200mm +1x 120mm intake(Plus big side panel vent) for a little bit of negative air pressure and it works great, minus the dust in the filters.

Using Afterburner, dynamic fan speed, fans are running 100% @ 80C still no good.

3 top are exhaust as well. 4 front are intake, bottom intake.

So I don't know what to make of this. Should I RMA the card?

That is pretty hot. I have a custom fan profile in Precision X. With that turned on, my cards stay in the mid 60Cs at full load. Without Precision X, my cards get to mid 70Cs. I have stock-cooled spec EVGA cards that have gone over the 1100MHz core-clock mark during their turbo boost with no OC (I must have lucked out with the thermals on my GPUs for once?). My fans never get close to 100% when using my fan profile.

It sounds like you have all the fans in all the right places. It could just have to do with the design of the cooling solution on this particular gen of GPUs. I'd try an RMA if you expect cooler temps, but it could just be that the design is just not that great for this generation of cards. I hope an RMA fixes the issue for you.

While 80c is high for a Twin Frozr it's still normal for a GTX 680. However, running your GPU fan at 100% is not normal. For that temp on Auto you would likely only be hitting somewhere in the 50% fan range. It seems like there might be a problem with the heatsink/fan not being in full contact with the GPU. I suggest a return to the store you bought it from or RMA to MSI, which can take some time. If you have some skills, you could remove the heatsink and reapply it yourself with a fresh coat of thermal paste.

Thanks for all the advice guys, appreciate it. I can't remove the heatsink without voiding the warranty (sticker right on one of the screws). I could always work that graphics card until blows up, there's a 3 year warranty...

Also apparently the card has thermal PADS as opposed to paste and I've only got paste. I believe pads work better?

The card reached 87C last night (in Crysis 3), I'm just waiting for this thing to pop :)

I seriously wouldn't be all that concerned. That's still well within spec (98C max - http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-680/specifications ). If you're hanging out at the 98C mark constantly or go over, it would be a concern.

Like you said, you have a 3-year warranty. By that time, we should all have upgraded our video cards or be shopping for new ones anyhow.

I just hope the fan wasn't running at 100% to maintain that temp. Again, if you are anywhere over 75% fan (on Auto) with a Twin Frozr cooler then call the manufacturer and start the return process now. Hopefully, you are running more around the 50-65% range.

Hey man you shouldnt worry too much about it if you get these high temps only on dead space 3 i domt know if you play it without vsyn the fps can go as high as 200 + fps which made my radeon 6970 reach 95 degrees C turnin v symc which capped the game at 60 fps reduced the temps to normal but if you get this high with other games then it must be your gpu bro

if it does go that high for other games RMA that contact your store and tell them that your card is faulty and that it reaches high temp running fans on full speed causes the fans to die early so just RMA it
