MSI GTX 760 not detected by BIOS

So first of all, I would like to put it out there that I am by no means a hardware expert. I'm sure the people reading this have heard it a million times, but I still would like to put it out there...

Sooo... a few weeks ago I acquired the funds to purchase my first custom rig (was not gonna get swindled again by some salesman to buy POC stuff). Decided on an AMD/ Nividia build and... well I'll stop the backstory here and get to the point:

After the seeming weeks of shipping, I finally received the parts and, after the hard day of assembling, I finally (and proudly) pressed the power button, only to have the BIOS speaker blare out a long-3X-short MemOk beep, followed by nothing appearing on the screen. Upon looking at the manual I discovered it was, in fact, a VGA missing fault; my MOBO was un-able to detect the GFX card at all.

Now, I was able to do my homework on this (I spent a good half of today doing so) and found a few good tips to try, such as updating the BIOS and installing the drivers from the disk... none worked.

For the sake of not repeating things in the responses below, I also did the following diagnosis techniques to test the card and MOBO slots:

Connected the graphics card to another computer chassis with same results: BIOS beep and no display.

Switched out the 760 for an old GF 240 from an older tower. It worked flawlessly with no configuring.

Reset the CMOS and re-connected my GPU to the x16 slot, with the same errors.

Moved the GPU down to both a new x16 slot and another x16 lane.

----

I'm really kinda on the end of my troubleshooting ropes here. I'd really like to consider as many options as I can before considering the card a lost cause and giving it the "DOA stamp."

Any helpful hints would be welcomed. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and (hopefully) provide some assistance.

P.S. specs of the comp are as follows:

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0

CPU: AMD FX 8350 (4GHZ)

Memory: Corsair Vengence 1600 mhz 32G (4X8)

PSU: XFX Pro750W

and finally... yes...

MSI GeForce GTX 760 OC 2gb GPU

hope for the best,, they will send you a new one if it can't be repaired . 😀

Ah, should have continued on with my diagnosis explanation, heh... I did forget to mention that actually: I have tried a multitude of different combinations in regards to the connectors. Appart from trying both of the PCI 6pin adapters alongside one of the 6+2 connectors for the main power, I also tried switching each of the 6+2 connectors between the 6 and 8pin power ports with no success. Basically, I tried all possible combinations of the PCI 6pin and 6+2pin connectors, as well as the 2xMOLEX to 6pin with about as much success as the others.

Well if after you system boots does GPU fans start spinning? If not then you must RMA the gpu back it must be faulty.

Well that is what really started confusing me; they do spin up and, from the outside at least, it seems the card is in perfect working order.

I really do want to (no pun intended) put my cards on it being a simple BIOS setting I forgot to enable/ disable, but that is seeming less and less likely as the hours tick by, lol.

You have got quite a situation then,,,
If i was you i would tried the following:
1.Using Internal Graphics went to bios and set Primary Display Adapter to PCI-e or PEG.
2.Using different video output like HDMI or DP.
3.Try the GPU in some other system.

If all of above fail i would just RMA the stuff out without any further thought.

Well, unfortunately, the Sabertooth doesn't actually have an integrated graphics chip nor adapter on the IO. I can, however, run my 240 in a different x16 slot alongside the 760. I will try the PDA technique though and see what that can accomplish.

Thanks for all your help so far and I will respond with the results shortly (after I re-install the graphics card into the computer I'm using, of course 😛).

Seriously i forgot the chipset you are using, (I am more habitual to Intel) in this case if there is no internal graphics,
Step 1 is of no use.

And please do inform the results.

Well after a good 20 minutes or so of searching I did finally find it under the Northbridge setting panel. It, unfortunately, had no affect on the situation as the card still boots to red and 4X beep.

So I mean I will keep my eyes on this thread, but I will probably be going on with the intention to sending back to seller...

Now, that is a bit tricky for my situation, however, and any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

See, I got the card from another person that bought it from Newegg and, at the last minute decided he wanted a card switch and simply sold the 760. Now, my question to anyone that can answer it (as me and the seller are trying to figure this out between eachother as well): will I be able to contact Newegg and deal with the situation on my own, assuming I have the order number and transaction code, or will I need the OC (original customer) to intervene in the exchange as well?

Well GFX card is out for RMA return now, hopefully they won't just send me the same card and say it was fixed like a few other companies have in the past with components, lolz.

Thank you for your assistance once again khicharkumar!

I hope it will be the latter. I've heard some bad stories about repaired GPU's never again living up to a new mint-quality ones. Maybe it is only superstition, who knows... I'm just glad MSI has a good warranty on it.
