msi gtx 760 overclock with auto underclock

hello. I'm using an msi gtx 760 card which is overclocked by MSI. however... this card comes with some software from MSI with 3 modes: silent mode, gaming mode and OC mode.
this is not what I'm here for though.
I selected the silent mode and then overclocked my GPU to 1125MHz, but now it's always on this clock speed. so it doesnt clock itself down when it's needed. it will clock down again when I select the "silent mode" again, but I also lose my overclock again.

this isnt realy a big problem as I can save the settings in the MSI afterburner software. but it would be nice not to switch between modes constantly

on a side note: using the OC mode on this card gives me a clock of 1189 MHz, but after intensive gaming my drivers crash. so it's not a very stable overclock? or what else may cause this problem.
this is not realy a concern for now, but i'd like to get some more out of my card in the future when it's needed.

so select the underclock profile on the "msi gaming app" and in that profile OC and then save? because this is what I tried without succes. I could give it another shot though

also, any idea why it crashes on the 1198MHz clockspeed?
I know that the amount of overclocking you can do is different for every chip out there. but it's weird that this is a factory OC that is unstable. even when I increase the voltage
 
1189 - to get that, you have to boost voltage which makes it hotter. Add stiff gaming load and the thing just overheats.

I've got 2 x gtx670's. I never OC them to use them. Don't have to. If I can get 60fps without OC, I don't need or would notice 70fps.
 
I checked the temperatured and it didnt exceed 70 degrees. I stressed it with furmark and it just crashes, my driver just stops and restarts.
I checked if it was the temp by stressing on a lower clockspeed with my fanspeed turned down a notch. and it did work with a higher temperature then the higher clock.
 
and it happens very fast? when I monitor the temp goes up slowly, I dont think the temperature will jump from 65 to 95 in a hearthbeat?
but I will do a RMA then.

it's just weird because it works perfectly under 1170 MHz
