So I recently decided to get a new case and I wanted to get a windowed case with purple LEDs, however I ran into a big problem. My motherboard and GPU are both black and red! I searched the internet and found versions (Both MSI) that are black and white but I can't afford to spend $450 just to change the colors of my parts. Is there any way I can buy some sort of replacement cover for the 970, and while I'm asking the question, any way to get some sort of motherboard cover that will cover those red parts? Any help is appreciated. :bounce:

The parts on the stock GTX970 cooler are easily removable with screws. As for the paint you probably want to use Plasti-Dip or some other heat resistant dyes. The motherboard can be painted over too, just make sure to use LOTS of tape and be careful.

Here's how to use Plasti-Dip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQIal_982fE&feature=youtu.be
Here's some proof it can be done: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/XY7hP6, http://www.tweaktown.com/news/43522/math-military-modding-supercharges-msi-gtx970-krait-edition/index.html
As for the GPU Shroud removal, I don't think that will be too hard

I'm not too versed with motherboard parts specifically, but those little parts that look like tiny houses, are those completely safe to paint over? All I really need painted are those tiny little house shaped things surrounding my CPU and the MSI logo. The rest of the board is black, it's just got a few red accents ^^

What Motherboard is it?

That'd probably help 😛
It's an MSI Z97 G45 Gaming Motherboard

I think your referring to the North-bridge. Both parts of the North-bridge are completely safe to paint. If you can find an easy way to remove the red bits (like screws) that'll make your job even easier. If not, just use some masking tape and some cardboard.
Also remember the heat resistant paint, the thing your painting is a heatsink and can get warm.
The other red parts on the bottom of the board is the South-Bridge, and has the same purpose.
That will be harder to paint. If there is an easy way to unscrew the red dragon pit that will make your job a lot easier. However I don't think there is. You can always to make a stencil of the dragon, if you want to keep the logo. If it was me, I'd just print off a sticker made on photoshop to suit the theme. With the right size it will cover it perfectly. Stickers won't affect the performance to much as the South-bridge doesn't get that hot to begin with.

If it's the part above and to the left of the CPU, yes. Thank you so much for the help! I'll be able to get everything all modded up nicely. Now I just need to figure out if the window on my new case is removable so I can paint that white too... 😉
Once again, thank you and have a nice night! :)
