Hello all, hoping I can get a hand with a grahpics card connector issue. I just purchased the MSI GTX 970. It is not the "gaming" version with the 1 6 pin and 1 8 pin setup. This unit has dual 6 pin connectors. My PSU is a cooler master 1000W with modular slots on it. I currently have 4x 5 pin slots and 6x 6 pin slots on the PSU. I have no 8 pin slots on the PSU. I am wondering how I can get the other 6 pin connected. Both the PSU connection and the PCIE connection on the graphics card are 6 pin male. I have 1 6 pin male to 6 pin male cable that came with the computer when i bought it a number of years ago. However all my searches for such a cable online are coming up empty. I suspect I would need an 8-12 inch cable to make the connection. Any thoughts on how to use adapters or where to buy the exact cable? Thanks in advance

Solution
You might be able to buy replacement PCIe power cables for a modular power supply. I have never had a need to do this so I haven't looked into it.
Yeah no molex cables came with the GPU, the only adaptors/connectors that came with it were a monitor adaptor, and an 8 pin male to 6 pin female that is about 3 inches long.

The PSU is from what I can see a Cooler Master Silent Pro 1000W. At least thats all the info I can gather off it without taking the entire thing out of the tower. Also I made an error in my original post. The modular connections are 6x 6 pin female, and 4x 5 pin female. Currently 3 out of 4 of the 5 pin connection are taken up by my SSD and HDD and my DVD drive. The 6 pins are empty save for 1 that is occupied by the 6 pin male to 6 pin male cable that I have plugged in to the GPU

Leave the 2 extra pins unplugged on the 6+2 pins.

Yes I understand that, and I have no issue doing that my issue is and maybe I am just blind and stupid I cant find a 6 pin or 6+2 pin that has dual male ends which is what I need. I have one male 6 pin to male 6+2 pin cable. That came with the computer when I bought it and was hooked up to the previous graphics card i was using. My issue now is I need another one of those cables, or I would need a 6+2 male to 6+2 male cable, those would be the two simplest ways in my mind to connect the thing. However I cant seem to find either of those sets of cables on newegg, or amazon, ebay or through a google search. That is why I am asking if anyone knows of where to buy such a beast or of another maybe to connect it, using another series of cables and adaptors that are easier to find.

It is a modular power supply. And its less about not having things plugged in and more about actually not having the cable i need to plug in.

I might have found a solution tell me if this makes sense. I can purchase a 6+2 pin male to molex female connection, then I currently have a cable in my possession that will convert the molex to 5 pin, and i have an extra 5 pin PSU slot available. Is that doable or am I missing some element?

All necessary cables should have came with your power supply. You might not have had them all plugged in if you didn't need them with your old setup. Hopefully you didn't throw the ones you didn't need away.

I also have a modular power supply and I just keep all the cables I didn't need in the original box in case I ever need those cables when I change hardware in the future.

Yeah my guess is that the number of times I have moved and the number of parts I owned conspired against me to cause most of those cables to be lost. Well I guess I will just keeping looking for a set of connectors that will work.
