Hi there,

I'm new to pc building and I built my first pc a couple of weeks ago. I just got my new graphics card and I can't seem to get it to work. In my naivety I assumed I would plug it in, install the drivers from the disc and it would work but it hasn't. The card isn't being detected in the BIOS or in device manager and I'm stuck as to what to do next.

My build is:

ASUS Maximus VII Hero Mobo
Intel i7 4790k
MSI GTX 970
Corsair RM650 PSU
Corsair Vengeance 16GB RAM

Thanks for your help.

All mobo's are a little different, but go into BIOS/UEFI and insure that pcie(or simillar phrase) graphics
is enabled
That could be the problem. If so, you should then be able to download the drivers. Best to do that
from the mfg site (Nvidia) directly, most likely the drivers on the disc are outdated already.

Also, be sure the required 6pin or 8pin pcie cable(s) coming from the PSU are connected before you
attempt to boot.

Also, you shouldn't have to, but you might have ti disable the IGPU (on board graphics), most of the time
setting it on auto is sufficient, but maybe your particular mobo needs it to be disabled in order to
properly detect a pcie graphics card.
