I have a question about the MSI GTX 970 Graphics card.

So basically as you can see from these two pictures, all the screws except one are black. My question is about the white one. From the first picture it looks like it has no hole for you to put the screwdriver in to unscrew it, but on the second picture it has a hole - it almost looks like a little sticker over the screw that has been damaged. So I'm guessing that's like a security sticker so you lose warranty if you take the card apart by unscrewing it (it breaks the sticker?). Is that it? Or is it something else?

That depends on the plate...

Hmm.. but can I install a custom backplate without voiding the warranty?

Nope, damaging that sticker will void your warranty with MSI, however I know I could go to my local PC shop and pay them to mount a cooler and/or backplate on a card and then get a warranty from the local shop.

I'm not exactly sure but in this picture it looks like the 4 big screws in the middle aren't really used. Does it just look like that or is the plate cut so you just put it over and only mount it will the little side screws?

That depends on the plate.

You can see here^ this backplate overlays the 4 screws that mount the heatsink.

However this plate^ does not just overlay the screws. (I know, way different card, just using this for reference)

Not sure what plate you plan on using but it should be easy to look at pictures and see what it requires.
