I was playing pubg one night and about 10 minutes after my computer had started, the display to all 3 of my monitors cut out. I was on discord and I was still talking to my mate, and could hear the in game audio.

I restarted my computer but it was just black, so i tried my integrated graphics and it worked for a while. I restarted the computer again but it returned to a black display.

I reseated the graphics card and tried to start it through that but then the following image occured

I have not been able to get the computer to start and since then I've also tried removing ram, and isolating hard drives. I've also tried using different monitors and cords

When I don't touch my computer for a while (say a few hours), it will open just fine using the graphics card. After about 5 minutes it will cut out and the process will repeat.

Specs Ram: 4x 4gb g.skill Gpu: MSI GTX 980 ti Cpu: i5 4690k Motherboard: ASRock z97 pro4 2 hard drives + 1 SSD Windows 10

I'm sorry to say this, but that image looks like GPU faliure.

Try changing the resolution (either higher or lower than whatever you are using, or whatever is native) and see if that helps. If it does, Windows might have auto updated something for your display (rarely happens for 1080p or above displays, but worth a try). Another thing to do is to boot with your integrated graphics with the GPU still connected (most BIOS have this option) and try to completely uninstall your graphics drivers (manually is preferred, but there is always DDU), reinstall them and then re-enable your PCIE (graphics card). You may want to also check if there is a VBIOS update for your card itself.

If you reseated the card and it sort of worked, then two things may have occured: it may be the slot itself or again, the GPU may be damaged (sometimes moving it, applying pressure to it or heat can shift it's behavior).

If it truly is dead or dying, you can try to apply heat directly to the die (if it is out of warranty only of course). This is best easily done with a heat gun, but a hairdryer sometimes works (doesn't generate high enough temps). If it works afterwards, then yes, your GPU is dying.

Thankyou for your advice!

What I ended up doing is putting my card in my friend's computer and it worked fine. Could the problem lie in the PCIE connection between the card and the motherboard?

Yes, very possible. if your MB is still under warranty, it is time to send it in. If not, buying another one isn't the hard part IMO, but the transfer of the data on the HDD and Windows, which cannot be transferred unless you purchased a retail copy (thus unnecessarily adding to the total cost).

The weirdest part after testing the card at my mate's place is that I put it back in my computer and now it is working absolutely normal
This is so weird because I had already taken the card out two or three times beforehand.

Truly a mystery, thanks for you help
