I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my old 5870 to a new gtx 970m and would it function correctly with my laptop? Looking at all the information that the brains had written, I thought I'd try to mess with mine too. I know the voltage is quite a skip. Just a theory I want to try. And if it works, then goody me i get a new Christmas present, but if it doesn't then oh well for me.

Laptop: MSI GX660
CPU: i5-460m
GPU: Mobility Radeon HD 5870 (1 GB DDR5)
OS: Windows 7 ultimate k
ODD: 500 GB
RAM: 4 GB

Thanks before hand for all your opinions and theories.

Don't know about going to a 970m but there are plenty of posts about upgrades with older but faster parts http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=22715281

Although quite a few talk about needing to modify the heatsink and get a larger power supply. And keep in mind that if you make a goof on the system, possibility of turning your laptop into a paperweight is there. So weight the risk of damaging the system and not having a laptop at all vs using it at the current setup or selling it and upgrading to a newer one.
