I recently acquired a MSI H55-ED55 motherboard and have installed windows 8 Pro x64 on it. The two pieces of RAM came with it.

The issue is that the motherboard (and Windows 8) is only showing 3096 MB of RAM. In the bios it sees both sticks and knows the serial numbers and everything. I have swapped the slots and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I looked up the motherboard information and it should be able to see up to 16 GB of RAM

I have done a bit of searching around and I cant seem to find any other documentation on this problem. I looked around the BIOS to see if any specific settings were set (as well as resetting the BIOS and updating to the latest version) but I couldn't find anything set oddly, although I could have just missed something.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hmm interesting point, I'll take a look at that when I get home. They are in the same color DIMM (2 blue slots and two black slots on board) but I believe one stick is 1333 and the other is 1066. I would have thought that faster one would have just under clocked to match but maybe since this board is all about overclocking and such it didn't auto do that.
