Hi,

I have a GTX 580 on the latest nvidia drivers.

I installed MSI Kombustor and started up the default stress test in the settings that were there just after installing it. My card is at completely stock settings. Wanted to see what the temperature got up to.

2 seconds into the stress test i got a BSOD.

After restarting there are lots of red and/or blue artifacts all over the screen.

Did this program instantly fry my card?

Temp was 34 degree before starting. Fan was at max with MX4 grease on the GPU. I dont think it would have melted in 2 seconds due to heat. Maybe it tried drawing too much juice?

sounds like it just failed could of been due to the stress test and something on the card was weak and just failed or just its age or it all ways had a weak part in it that gave up ? these things happen old or new

seeing your swap out cards work fine just call it bad shrug shoulders and move on to bigger and better things ... we all get cards that buy the farm from time to time ..
Kombuster and Furmark are notorious for breaking graphics cards, especially ones that weren't over-engineered with overly beefy power delivery components. They're also quite good at telling you whether or not your power supply and motherboard power delivery are good enough.

Melted? Probably not. Busted a VRM or choke? Probably.

''Kombuster and Furmark are notorious for breaking graphics cards'' ya, had me going hmmmmmm........ and stopped

you may just do the uninstall and redo

then type programs need a eye kept on them at all times cause there stress tests and can run things up until a fail weather or not any fail caused damage ???? like they say use at own risk

try what xapoc said and see if thing are back to normal . most time it will just like a bad overclock may just crash or bsod ??

that old a card could of just gone faulty as well or you goofed something doing your repaste job like getting paste in /n something it don't need to be [some paste is conductive] or just broke something taking it apart or reassembling it back ??

My psu is Antec EA-750 Green.

Tried unistalling MSI Kombuster and doing clean reinstall of drivers first thing. When i start up there is some matrix looking text and flashing gobbledygook text when booting.

Ive switched out to an old gtx 260 and also 560ti. They both boot up fine with no artifacting or garbled text on startup.

Im thinking Kombustor straight up done fried my card.

Any ideas for a fix or is it bricked.

Tested another card fine. Playing BF4. Put the 580 back in and get the artifacts and dodgy text all over the place.

How did this happen to a non overclocked card that has been stable for a year and only when running a kombustor stress test it breaks in seconds...
