So I am interested in turning my gaming rig into a 3-D printing rig. And right now I am running the following components:

  • NZXT S340 Elite
  • EVGA Supernova G2 750W
  • AMD Ryzen 7 1700
  • 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum
  • NZXT Kraken X62
  • Samsung 960 Evo Pro 250GB
  • Intel 660 2TB
  • EVGA Ge Force RTX 2070

Now I plan on upgrading this rig to a 3900X. I could probably wait until Ryzen 4 comes out, but that could be later this year. This is what I plan on upgrading my rig to:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
  • MSI Meg Ace or Gigaybyte Aorus Elite
  • Sabrent Rocket 1TB

I'm personally leaning more toward the Gigabyte board but the MSI also looks to be pretty solid as well. My budget for the motherboard alone is $300 but I can be flexible on this. I am reusing all the other components but I am upgrading just the motherboard, CPU, and primary SSD for now.

Honestly, what board do you have now?

Unless you NEED PCIe 4, it may be worth your time to try the 3900x in your current board to see what happens with regards to clocks and vrm temps

Right now I have an Asrock X370 Taichi but I've been having a lot of problems with it, so I figured if I'm going to upgrade the CPU I might as well replace the motherboard while I am at it.
