MOBO: MSI NF980-965 Bios ver. 1.2
CPU: AMD 1055T X6
Graphics EVGA 470 Fermi
OS: Win7
RAM: 8g Ripjaws

Ok, Ill keep this short and sweet.

Bought said parts from New Egg last week. MOBO is AM3 ready, but not for 6 core apparently. I have seen where people have updated their bios and gotten it to work with the AMD 1055t X6, however - after going to the manufacturers site I see no bios update for my board, other than the version that I already have. Am I missing something here?

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

The problem here is that AMD don't works very fine with nVidia chipsets.

My suggest is try to re-sell ur current mobo and get a new one with Chipset AMD that support the X6.

Did you install the software on the disc that came with the motherboard ?...... once installed all you got to do is run the auto updater.... got this from MSI site...

The MSI Live Update online is designed to automatically download and update the BIOS and driver when there’s a new version online. It helps reduce the risk of getting the wrong file and minimize the trouble of searching the files from MSI website.

^The problem here isn't the BIOS update, the problem is that DOESN'T exist a BIOS version that support the X6
