Hey guys, Mike2012 here. I just got an MSI R7770 and it's performing pretty well. But the stock fan, gets extremely loud during gaming sessions.

Now, there's one reason I can think of for this, which is the fact that it is a 2-slot card and that the 2nd slot is blocked. On the first slot you can simply remove the thing covering the slot. The third slot is similar. However, on the 2nd and 4th slots, they seem to be covered by parts that are harder to remove.

On this page, you can find a picture of an identical PC, so you can see what I'm talking about...

I think that's why the GPU is getting so hot and getting so loud.

Other than that, I can't think of any other reason why it's getting so hot and loud.

Let me explain more clearly.

My HD 7770 Graphics Card is too noisy during gaming sessions.

Take a look at the 2nd thumbnail in the 2nd row on that page.

See how there are 4 slots below the power supply? 1 of those slots is for the GPU. The bottom most slot in that picture would be the one the GPU is used for. Inside the computer you remove the cover from that slot. See the slot above it? That's the slot cover I don't know how to remove.

Now the problem is, is that the 2nd slot is covered. This 2nd slot is covering where the exhaust from the graphics card comes out, resulting in higher temperatures.

Check the 2nd picture here if you want to know what the card looks like...

I guess I'm basically asking, how can I remove those things that cover the 2nd and 4th slot?

Allright, now I get it. Well hard to say because I'm not familiar with the case and I highly doubt anybody else here would be either. If you don't see any screws or switches inside the case you could always use a dremel or a metal cutter or you could at least just drill some holes on it where the exhaust is. If you don't have access to one I guess there's nothing lose if you try to bang it off with a screw driver or something? Just remove the graphics card first.

Honestly I'd just get another case...

Thats not the cause of your issue since its not a blower style fan, that card will exhaust most of its heat into the case. Download MSI Afterburner and set a custom fan profile, maximum temperature you should ever see is 80C, 75C is pretty healthy. Just set a fan profile to say 10% when temps are between 20-40C, then play with the slider a bit to see how much noise is tolerable and have that as your load temperature fan speed.

Do you see the bracket to the left of the expansion slot covers? That needs to be removed also in order to take them out. They should be easily removed from the inside of the case. That case is not good for airflow by any means at all and is most likely suffocating that card. As far as the exhaust I'd be more worried about where that fan is dispersing the heat which is most likely right back at itself in the case. Download GPU-Z and see exactly how hot the card is getting, while checking fan rpm/clock speeds.

Well for me, I notice the fan gets pretty noticable at around 50%.

I've set the slider at around 40% at 60c, so that it slides all the way to 50% at 70c.

With this setup, I've seen temperatures go around 60c-75c during gaming.

Would these temperatures be alright?

With the default fan profile, the fans go to 50% at 60c, which is the normal temperature for most games and 60% at 70c which is really annoying. With the default profile, I see around 60c-72c, but when the card gets too 72c the fan is way too loud. Loud fans are bad because, I live with other people and if I'm gaming at night, the loud fans might wake someone.

And could the second slot being blocked, really be making the GPU hotter?

you got to get that second slot cut out a radeon 7770 should be no hotter than 60 c at 30% fan speed.
