MSI R9 270x itx compatible with 144hz?

HI I'm in a little dilemma and torn as to if I should get a 144hz monitor or not. I'm not to savy on these things but I hear I could only get 144hz out of the monitor if I use a dual link dvi cable? Well my graphics card doesn't have one of those but it does have 2 mini displayports. I was wondering if I could do anything with those to push out the 144hz I want instead of 60 with my hdmi cable.

Could I use a displayport to mini displayport cable to get 144hz? My pc has a mini displayport and the monitor has a display port will that work?
