Okay so I'm building a budget gaming rig and the gpu I picked is the msi 280 3gb vram card and I try to go and read about it or watch videos about it and whenever I do all people have are 280x's why is that I mean the 280 is a great budget card so what's the deal

Probably because the performance between R9 280X and R9 280 is worth paying for.

More people with 280X make videos and post them! Both are great cards just a matter of how much money you want to spend and what performance level you are happy with.

There is about 15% performance difference between them.

280 is a capable gpu either gaming or rendering videos. The difference depends on the game but it averages around 5 to 7 fps. Remember that you can overclock a 280 to get near if not same performance as 280x.
