My computer was on for maybe more than a day (in use and idle) with my two intake fans off before I noticed it. When I saw my temps started hitting high 70s or so I opened my case and found a loose wire. Now I'm getting artifacts in game and in Kombusters benchmark but not in Heavens. No overclocking going on, all system specs are stock. According to Afterburner, GPU core clock is running at 1020MHz and memory clock is at 1500MHz. Is there anything else I can try or tests I can run to discover the problem/fix it?

System specs:
MSI R9 280x Twin Frozr Gaming
16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
ASUS H-97 PRO
i5-4670 @ 3.4GHz
Raidmax 600W PCU

No need to call me sir mate, I'm just a school kid myself 😛

As the problem isn't with drivers, and the artefacts only seem to happen when the GPU is under high load, I'm pretty sure it is your PSU. There's always the chance of a dodgy graphics card, but it's unlikely. As you need to swap out your power supply anyway, I recommend doing that. If the problem still persists, you should consider sending your graphics card back to MSI for an RMA.

Have you tried entirely removing drivers with the DDU tool and then reinstalling them? It's a sure fire way to remove any issues caused by drivers. Sometimes uninstalling with Device Manager leaves some driver files around, which can cause conflicts.

Other than that, I'm doubting the capability of that PSU to support your system. Raidmax are a tier 4 listed manufacturer of power supplies, which aren't recommended for any systems at all. I quote from the PSU tier list:

Tier Four
"No Japanese capacitors found. Only Taiwanese capacitors and may even include Chinese capacitors. Very basic safety circuits or even thin gauge wiring used. Not for gaming rigs or overclocking systems of any kind. Avoid unless your budget dictates your choice."

It also falls below the 750W minimum recommended by AMD.

No Sir, I had not tried that until just now. Uninstalled the drivers using the program and just got done reinstalling them. Same artifacts in game. Understood about the PSU. Honestly I hadn't planned on using it for this long, was in a bind and needed my PC for school. I was actually planning on upgrading it within the next two weeks. 🙁

Tyvm. I have noticed in the past 2 days that my screen seems to get a bit dim at times, most noticeably when I launch a game. I'll get that new PCU and see what happens after that. Appreciate the help! ^_^
