MSI R9 290 or the GTX 780 classified

I want to upgrade my GPU but i'm unsure on what to get someone please help me. I want max out settings on current games and have above 60 fsp, both are good cards i know but i would like some different opinions or what's better and why or if there is a different card i should get.

If both are the same price go with the 780 classified, it is one of the most solid 780s you can get. MSI on the other hand pales in comparison to what evga produces in quality terms. If you can find a sapphire toxic or tri x 290 that would be the only thing comparable to the 780 classified, but it would have to be $50 cheaper than the 780 for me to get it. There are weird problems with the 290 like random gpu usage spikes, etc. Nvidia creates better software and drivers and overall a better experience.

well i'm in the UK, the R9 290 is £360 and the GTX 780 is £420 the price doesn't matter that much im just looking for the one thats going to be the best, i may consider getting the 290x

Well, if the R9 290 has MSIs own cooler (Twin Frozr), then it's definitely a much better deal than the 780. If the R9 290 has a reference cooler, then the 780 might be worth the extra money; the reference 290 can get pretty loud, and it also loses some of its performance.

Same goes for the 290X, the reference cooler is bad news. It's easy to recognize, most of the card is covered in a shroud, and there's a single centrifugal fan at one end.

I've put alot of thought into it and have decided to just get the best GPU out there at the moment which would be the GTX 780ti but then i saw the R9 290x had a nice deal so this is my option, would it be better to get the 780ti or 290x and it would be value for money ?

Also mantle was released today on BF4 and it does give a massive boost but it gives some.
