I have an off the shelf HP Pavillion H8-1170uk

i7 - 2600 3.40 GHz
8GB DDR3 1333 RAM - speed PC3 10600
Chipset Intel H67
Running Win 7 ultimate

I have upgraded the power supply to a Supernova 850w G2

Currently i have N-Vidia G-Force GT 545

I have flashed latest BIOS.

I restored BIOS to defaults and insert the new R9 290x and get nothing off my monitor or have tried with 2x monitors connected in.

I just get the orange light and no imput on screen, the card is powering on as the fans are working,

There is 2x options for power the 6 adaptor or 8 adaptor same results any combination of these.

All is working ok with the old NVidia card and i when i swop back to that card it boots no problem.

I do have one exclamation in device manager for SM Bus Controller which i spent some hours reading and i am confident got the correct chip set installed as was detected by Intel site and installed this was due to clean install of Windows away from HP image.

If anyone could help or point me in some further troubleshooting it would be greatly appriciated

Solution
The 6 pin AND the 8 pin must be both connected at the same time.

On your motherboard by the cpu lower left side there is a white four pin connector is it connected?? it should be ok its to give extra power to the board for gpu cards.
Put the old card back in (just to use display),Remove all Nvidia software (everything) Remove all amd software including the AMD folder on drive C: (usual location). Turn off ,Swap cards ,Turn on and wait a few minutes . (longer than you expect. Making sure you have put display cable into right port .

That's a good program if your a bit new to the scene and cannot manage the manual uninstalling.
Good find Johnny.

Hi Yamitime, i went through and removed all NVidia stuff and AMD folder as described i ran CC cleaner and cleaned up NVidia entry's also and on last restart booted into standard VGA mode so confident all removed but still got same issue, on booting up just nothing to the screens.

Im away to look at Johnnyb105 possiblew resolve, thanks both

im afraid the uninstall program didnt work either
I cant determine if this is software or hardware, i checked and the card should be compatible with my PC\Mother Board, its just strange get absolutely no post\boot up at all on screen.
Back to the drawing board

Now the new card has power connectors yes did you plug them in ? is your power supply a evga super nova or some off brand?
Does your cpu have IGPU if so go into the bios and shut it off make sure you plug your monitor into the new card not the back of your pc but the card itself...

Hey Johnny,
Yeah its a evga super nova, so on the card it has a 6 slot and an 8 slot, i have tried connecting only the 6 slot to power and then also the 6 slot with the other 6 power with the 2 power to make them all full. The card has an 8 slot and a 6 slot, but even with no additional power the fans spin with just being connected to the PCI slot.

So not sure how much connections i should actually power the card with but presume as it has 14 in total 8 + 6 slots it should be full.

The card has 2x DVI, Display Port and HDMI, i have tried each of them individually and also the 2x DVIs to see if one would post to the display as read its sometimes the case in similar issues. My monitor has DVI\DP

My PC\Board does not have intregated graphics card.

So been trying all options in different combinations of DVI, 2xDVI, DP & have also tried HDMI to my TV all without success 🙁
