MSI R9 390X for VR?

Solution
Decently. Though teh cards taht are truely ready for VR are the ones from teh new generation coming out as they were designed with VR in mind from the start. Nvidia already announce very interesting and resource saving features on their new stuff, and AMD is sure to follow suit.

Really? The R9 390X is a very high end card. It beats out the 980 so it seems okay.

Yes, it will be ok, but for VR it would be entry level. And it's not a "very high end" card. Those would be the Furys :)

Too bad the Fury X uses a watercooler, which I dislike quite a bit...

The 390x will serve you well until AMD bring out Vega in october to combat the 1080 and 1070 😉
I wouldn't buy a current gen AMD card these days anyway, watercooler or not. Especially since i have a 390, witch will also serve me well until the new stuff 😉
Plus, like i said, the next gen was built with VR and over the full dx12 stack so..

The 390x will probably serve well for the next three years to be honest. Especially if you are gaming at 1080p.

In 1080p, definitely. In VR, not so much.

Well VR will never be mainstream so..... yeah
