I tried to install my msi r9 390x 8g in my Gateway DX4870 with a 500w power supply and my pc would not even boot into the bios. All i got was a blank screen. Light on my MSI r9 390x was on but no output to the screen. All the cables are good. The monitor is good. Adding this new card causes the system not to boot. Any ideas?

Go for ... CORSAIR CX series CX750M ... hope your cabinet is ATX :)

they are not good for gaming systems, especially with a gpu like a 390x

OP you need a QUALITY 650w unit or better, as posted above tier 1 or 2 model from that list.

supposedly the MSI R9 390x should work with a 500 watt power supply:

yea imma probably going to get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171094&cm_re=v750-_-17-171-094-_-Product

unless u can give me some names for some good cheap tier 2 power supplies because the link says the power supply u sent me was 255$

And i was also planning to get another r9 390x in the future for crossfire (by the time that happens i have probably built my own pc) but im just curious on how much watts that would take to power 2

So this would work the same as the cool master V750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371073&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Power+Supplies-_-N82E16817371073&gclid=Cj0KEQjw2v2sBRCazKGu3tSFz64BEiQAKIE1honEjdg0SM_UX5UQ2C6iSphpupDmJHBS-JIDDlJRdO0aAkh88P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

I am having the same issue. Connected my card, turned PC on and it defaults to motherboard graphics. The light above the card lights up but the fans don't spin. Im having a hard time finding cables that are compatible with this card and my ModXstream Pro 700w psu. Im thinking getting new power supply. The card uses 2 8 pin connectors, my psu has 2 female 8 pin connectors so I need a male to male 8 pin connector.. I bought one but it wont fit on my PSU.

no, your power supply should have come with the proper cables. red pcie.

you connect the 2 red pcie cables to the red connections in your power supply and then to the gpu.

The problem you face is not a ps problem, I have a 1200 watt gold certified ps and I still get the same problem you do. The problem we have is software related I am hoping the new driver coming out fixes it for us. At least we can hope
