MSI Wind Blank Screen and Sleep Mode due to Overclocking?

Hello! I have an MSI Wind laptop that had a failed Windows XP recovery. The initial problem is ntoskrnl cannot be found. I don't have a Windows XP CD here with me, so I'm trying to install Ubuntu Hardy Heron via USB. Now the next problem is, that the laptop turns on initially and then I choose the default options in BIOS and press F10 to save and exit. Afterwards, the rebooting hangs on a black screen (NO VIDEO). When there's a hang, I switch off the power button and then press the power switch again to turn the laptop on. What happens is that the laptop shows the sleep button being on and still no video. Every time I let the PC rest for around 20 minutes then switch on the power button, the laptop successfully shows the POST screen and I can enter setup again.

I'm thinking that the problem is with MSI Wind's overclocking not being able to cope up with the reboot.

* Is my laptop not handling overclocking properly?

* How do I enable the MSI Wind laptop to turn on successfully every time I reboot it?

* How do i successfully install Ubuntu Heron, or could there still be some way to recover Windows XP without having the CD or the serial?

Hi there. I'm not an expert on your problem but i might have some suggestions. I assume when say you chose the default options in BIOS, you mean you are trying to revert the overclocks back to the base clocks. If it is posting then it shouldn't be a hardware problem and the clocks should be fine. It would tell you otherwise. The booting into sleep mode will most likely be an error with xp and part of the failed recovery. I don't know much about Ubuntu, but there is another option. If you can gain access to another computer you can create a windows 10 update usb (or disk) here https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10 . You need at least a 4gb usb and you just follow the onscreen directions to download the media...

You need at least a 4gb usb and you just follow the onscreen directions to download the media creation tool. Once your windows 10 update usb is created you need to go into bios and set your boot options to boot off the usb first, then plug in the windows 10 usb and save and restart (f10). When it boots it may prompt you to press any key to boot from a disk or usb so watch for that. Then you just follow the on screen directions. I would guess this procedure would be the same for Ubuntu if you want to take that option, but like i said i'm not familiar with it. Windows 10 is free as long as you have your windows key on hand. If you don't have it it's ok, you can still install windows and use it, but you will need to activate it with your key in control panel/users to get the full options like customizing backgrounds etc. Give this a read http://www.howtogeek.com/206329/how-to-find-your-lost-windows-or-office-product-keys/ , it will help you recover your windows key from the windows registry if you don't have it on you.
