When I got this, I set it up, and it wouldn't boot at all. The only thing that I could do was plug my laptop into the HDMI input on the back and use it as another monitor. Today, I decided to try and take off the back cover and see if there was a loose connection. I couldn't get it off, but I did open the cover that accesses the RAM and made sure they were snug. I powered on, and BAM, the HDD light came on, I switched over to the PC input and I had Windows. Here are my graphics issues:
-- The screen has a red tint to it. When the screen should be totally black, it's red. I looked around online about this and read that it could be a driver issue. Could this be caused by a loose connection between the video card and the mobo? The video card and monitor both show as working properly in Device Manager.
-- I am curious about why the system defaults to the HDMI input display when it boots. Even if I try to restart from Windows, it goes to the HDMI input. I reset the settings from the monitor menu, but it didn't change anything.

Solution

It's not the same connection using it as a monitor. The HDMI input does not go through the computer video chip.
Is the system in warranty? If it is, contact MSI for support.

Did you get it used from someone? Did you make sure it worked first? Red display points to either a screen issue or a video card issue, may be a bad cable. If you can use it as a monitor normally that would rule out an issue with the screen. If it's a used system, I'd contact where you got it from and return it since the video card is likely bad. You can try with different RAM also.

Yes, I got it used. I asked what was wrong with it when I got it and they just said it was fu-ked up. The monitor is good because if I plug my laptop into the HDMI input, it works fine. I got the cover off and checked all connections, everything is good. I think it's probably a faulty GPU. I can still see everything, just has a red tint to it. I think that would also explain why it boots up to the HDMI input and not the PC monitor. The GPU shows working properly in DevMgr, but that could mean nothing.

-Update-: SO I messed around with this thing a little more and here's what I got.
--Used DDU to uninstall GPU driver and then reinstalled updated driver. A little of the red cleared up, but it's still mostly red. (See pics)

, http://imgur.com/a/OLAOG - in this last one you can see the redness is gone from the lower left corner of the screen. Something I noticed is that when I shutdown the system, the blue area goes to the right side.
--I checked to make sure there weren't any loose connections. There weren't, but oddly the MoBo screws were loose. I saw someone with an AIO had this issue that was caused by a loose connection.
--I'm looking into updating the BIOS ( I have v1.0 but I found a v1.3 and a v2.6) although I don't think this would have anything to do with the monitor problem. I saw a post about some guy that had one of these AIOs and he had the same problem, which he said was caused by someone screwing around in the BIOS. I unplugged the CMOS for a bit though, which should have reset BIOS, so I don't think my problem is here.
--As far as the system booting up to the HDMI input on default, I saw a couple other people mentioning this problem, so I'm guessing that it's probably just an issue with MSI's product,
-- There are very few resources online about these AIOs. MSI's site has nothing as far as support/downloads. I've kinda pieced everything together from different posts I've come across. I'm at this point assuming that the onboard NVIDIA ion GPU is probably faulty. Not sure if it can be changed. I did find a couple on eBay though.

Well I don't think it is a screen problem as you can see here...

If I plug my laptop into the HDMI port on the back, the picture is fine. So the problem has to be somewhere between the GPU and the connection to the monitor, no?
I thought about a cable issue before too, but here's my thing with that.: If the cable were bad, then wouldn't it also affect the picture displayed when I use the HDMI input? Any video signal coming from/through the MoBo to the monitor would have to go through this connection. Unless the HDMI and GPU signals are sent separately, in which case one of those tiny little wires could be bad inside of there. This is why I was thinking a GPU issue. You may still be right, but I just had to get my two cents in there. Let me know if you have any ideas about how I can troubleshoot further. If this cable is faulty I hope it is something that I can get. I know MSI tends to use a lot of proprietary connectors and stuff like that.

Could be a damaged video card, it's pretty clear it's not displaying blue or green colors, looks like none at all or close enough to none that it may as well be 0. Since the colors in most advanced video cables are divided by cable to prevent interference, looks like a cable issue from video card to screen.

I downloaded a test pattern and sure enough, no blue

(I don't know why it came out upside down?)

Looks like I'll be checking out a GPU to try, as it will probably be easier than the cable to find. Thanks for the help.

I'm just curious as to why it displays blues just fine from the HDMI input but not when the signal is ran from the PC, seeing as how they are output to the monitor through the same cable. I guess the HDMI- in doesn't go through the GPU output to the monitor?
