I ordered the MSI Z170-a pro along with my new CPU, although I thought I had ordered the ASUS one, which I can see now is a bit more expensive. The ASUS one has some pretty neat features, but performance wise, is it the same? Also, is it an overall good motherboard or should I go for another? (I can't go for a price over the Z170-a pro).

in real world testing board a vs board b for speed may be one or two seconds. it depends on how well the bios is written. i used both asus and msi mb. the msi bios takes a little learning curve on how to set fan speed profile up both other then that it not a bad mb. the only issue i bring up is if you order one of the newer cpu it uses the newer x270 chipset. the older x170 mb will work but it has to have the newer bios on it to post. if not you have to use an older cpu to post it or see if the mb has a usb flashback like asus mb.

I believe the i7 6700k uses the z170 chipset, so I should be good there?
So the asus version wouldn't be worth the $20-$30 extra?
