MSI Z170A PC Mate. 2-3 second stable red led on Dram and switches to cpu for a quick second and then back to dram. I tried taking out the ram and the it only has a stable DRAM Led light.

I'm pretty sure the problem lies with the ram but the fact that it blinks to cpu for a brief moment really scares me.

Does anyone know what the problem is? I can't seem to find this exact situation anywhere online

When you say ''won't boot'', do you mean that it goes on for a few seconds and then shuts down, or that you don't get an image even though the computer is running? The LEDs indicate that it is doing a POST (Power-On Self-Test), and it isn't necessarily a bad sign. If the computer keeps running and you're not getting anything on the display, make sure your video cable is plugged into the GPU and not in the Motherboard. If it's automatically powering down and you see an indicator for the RAM, make sure the sticks are properly installed in the slots and locked in place. Since you only have 2, they should be in Slot 1 and 3, for the best configuration possible.

Oh thanks for the reply, but i seemed to have solved it somehow. It was a pretty lame problem. The system itself wasnt shutting down and it was just running and the computer screen/mouse/keyboaard wasnt working. The problem was the ram slot. I initially had it as 2 and 4 then 1 and 3 and then finally to 1 and 2. After failing so many times and switching out parts to see what was the problem, I thought my ram was broken until i finally tried.....you guessed it......putting it in 3/4 ram slot.

Thanks anyways though
