So I was thinking about getting the i5-8600k and pairing it up with a noctua nh-d15 cooler and overclocking to around 4,8-5ghz. The question remains, is an msi z370-a pro enought for it? It just seems like a very good mother board for the price.

Np man.
Nvm about the cooler thing. I was thinking of 5.2 Ghz for your i5 chip...

Currently own that motherboard with an i7-8700k at 5.2 Ghz all cores.
Yes the motherboard is sufficient for overclocking and its BIOS navigation features are quite easy to follow intuitively.
Should have no problem hitting 5 ghz with that i5 chip.
For that cooler the chip might get real warm at 5 ghz running prime95 thou.

Np man.
Nvm about the cooler thing. I was thinking of 5.2 Ghz for your i5 chip. For that yea it might get real warm.
But for 5.0 Ghz your noctua cooler should be decent. Temp might be warm but nowhere near the point you should worry.
If you have other question about overclocking using that specific mobo, feel free to post on here or message.
Have fun overclocking.
