Howdy folks,

Yesterday, I completed my first PC build! Hooray! =)
Here are the specs:

Intel i7 - 8700
MSI z370 KRAIT Gaming MOBO
Sandisk II - SSD - 500GB
MSI Geforce GTX 1080 Ti - Gaming X Twin Frozr
EVGA 850W Gold
Windows 10 Pro 64Bit
NZXT Phantom 530 Case

I practiced proper static control during the build. There was no physical damage inflicted on the MOBO, the case or any other components during the build.

I was thrilled when she booted up a fresh copy of Windows 10 - however, the built-in network adapter doesn't seem to be working properly on this board. Nooooo =(

I have a wifi router where I live and it functions properly on other devices without issue. It also functions when used directly with a CAT5 or CAT6 cable. One of my other roommates is currently using a Powerline Kit (200 Mbps) and I plan on using the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Kit for direct connection in my room.

Without access to the internet, I went straight from installing Windows 10 to popping in the supplied MOBO driver & update DVD from MSI. It loaded quickly and properly. Their interface informs you of the drivers it has available and lets you choose which ones you want to install. I chose them all which includes the following:

Chipset: Intel Chipset Drivers - 10.1.1.44
LAN: Intel Network Drivers - 22.5.104.0
Audio: Realtek HD Audio Drivers - 6.0.1.8237
Audio: Nahimic 2 - 2.5.18
Other: Intel ME Drivers - 11.7.0.1037
Other: Intel Software Guard Extensions - 1.7.102.37526

When the installation process completed, the 'Status' of all the drivers automatically switched from 'Not installed' to 'Installed' .... EXCEPT for the LAN Driver.

Left-Clicking on the 'Not Connected' tray icon results in a blank list of connections.
Navigating to the Network Connections results in a completely empty folder.
Attempting to 'Set up a new connection or network' results with 'Windows did not detect any networking hardware'.
Troubleshooting problems > Network Adapter results with 'Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver.'
Switching CAT6 cables results were identical.
I've reset my computer a number of times since then.
I've attempted to reinstall the driver 3 times since then.

I don't know how to manually install a driver that's been downloaded directly from the manufacturer.

The strangest part is that as you watch the progress bar (when attempting to install the driver from MSI's supplied DVD), it will complete and list the driver as 'Installed'... but then when you go to the Driver & Software Setup interface, it remains listed as 'Not Installed'. Pretty frustrated at this point.

I am very confused. Please help, knowledgable internet peoples! What should I do??

My suggestion would be to go to "Device Manager > Network adapters", right click the Intel Network Controller, then either choose "Update Driver Software" or "Uninstall" and let Windows 10 install the drivers. Once you have it working, at a later time you can update with new LAN drivers downloaded from the MSI website. That's if you wanted to.

In Device Manager, there is no 'Network Adapters' option at all.

As I do not have an Internet connection available without this ethernet functioning, I will not be able to use any auto-update features of any kind.

I should note that I have since downloaded the I219-V ethernet driver for Win10 64 bit directly from Intel and attempted to install it. After about 5 minutes, the installation process halted with the message "There is no Intel network adapter on the computer. Installation cannot continue."

Go into the BIOS and under "Settings > Advanced > Integrated Peripherals > Onboard LAN Controller" make sure it is "Enabled".

I used the installed Fast Boot app to get to the BIOS, it restarted and took me there without issue. I followed your path to 'Integrated Peripherals' and the 'Onboard LAN Controller' is currently set to [enabled]. This is my first time in the BIOS and I did not alter this setting.

I can only think that there is something wrong with your motherboard. It has "1x Intel I219-V Gigabit LAN controller" built in, so it should be showing up in your Device Manager. The fact that you tried to install the LAN driver from the motherboards install disk and it would not install, that should not happen. I would contact MSI or the retailer where you bought it and get a replacement.

This is awful news.

I want to say thank you very much for your time and suggestions. I appreciate your effort.

I've contacted MSI and they will replace the board.

I had the same problem. Not sure why Windows 10 and LAN drivers are issue with every single Intel builds. You have to update the chipset to the newest version. Get the newest LAN driver. Always get it from the mobo manufacture website. Don't install it from the folder. Go into device manager and look under other devices. Right click and select update driver and choose browse my computer for driver software. Point it to the LAN driver folder and install it that way. Good luck to you. If you are using MSI, you do want to enbale LAN in BIOS.
