Components:
CPU: i5 4690k
Motherboard: MSI Z87 GD-65 Gaming
Memory: 2x4GB Corsair DDR3 Vengeance (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R)
GPU: GTX 770
PSU: 700w

Bios version: 1.9
ME version: 9.0.30.1482

I've never been able to boot with memory in DIMM 1 and 2, DIMM 3 and 4 work fine. I've had this problem since I purchased the motherboard 2 years ago. I had 2 sticks of cheap ram that I had from my old system that I was going to use in this system. I tried booting dual channel with ram in DIMM 1 and 3 and the pc didn't boot. Tried DIMM 2 and 4 and still no boot. Troubleshooting made me realise that I could use both ram sticks in DIMM 3 and 4, this made me think that the ram was at fault. About half a year later I decided to buy 4x4GB sticks of Corsair RAM. Since I got the ram I've never been able to get any sort of boot from DIMM 1 and 2 using all different types of ram configurations - this meant that I've only been able to use 8GB of ram in DIMM 3 and 4.

Debug code (in slow motion): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgYpYdoLxd0
Debug codes (going frame by frame) show (in order): 00-08-09-10-19-15(?)-00-28-55-nothing(Segment Display off)-07-08-10-19-15(?)-00
Can't really make anything from the video other than the codes that stay light for the long periods of time only matter?

Not really a huge problem as I can still boot with DIMM 3 and 4. I've been wanting to upgrade to a new CPU and use this motherboard. Instead of buying new sticks I would prefer to use the unused sticks.

Solution
To me, it looks like it is failing while attempting Early North Bridge Initialization or while attempting Early CPU Initialization, which is next in the order.

Just tried resetting cpu again and checking for bent pins and debris etc, same problem with same debug codes. DIMM 3 and 4 boot fine once again.
I have a H100i liquid AIO.

Here are the POST codes that are being displayed:

  • ■ 55 - Early Memory Initialization
fast 07, 08, 09 Power on CPU Initialization, Power on North Bridge Initialization, Power on South Bridge Initialization
    ■ 10 - unknown
    ■ 19 - Early South Bridge Initialization
    ■ 15 - Early North Bridge Initialization
    ■ 00 - unknown
    fast scramble
Considering that you have reseated the CPU and checked the socket. Have you removed and reinstalled the 24-pin and CPU power connectors?

Failing that, I suspect the motherboard is the problem.

I've rebuilt the pc probably about 4 times just to see if any connections are at fault. I accept that the motherboard is the problem. I thought I might as well post on forums just to get an occasional odd answer which might help. Thanks for the help though!
