Hi folks,
I've updated the Bios on my MSI Z97 Mpower MAX AC. It has a switch to select one bios or another if you screw up the first, (just like the higher-end GPU cards).
Anyway, I downloaded the latest BIOS update per MSI.com. It shows to be version "1.B" on the download page. I used M-Flash and flashed the BIOS, (after first unpacking it, of course), and everything went by the book and smoothly, no surprises.
I reboot into the UEFI and it shows my BIOS version as "1.11". I switched to my #2 BIOS setting which displays version "1.7". OK, so I downloaded & tried the "1.A" version and it displayed as "1.10", (makes sense... sort of).
I call the MSI techs and they didn't sound very convincing in as far as their knowledge on the subject. When I told him what the 1.A displayed after installation, he said something like, "hmmm, the version the board was released with was 1.1. We have no 1.10 version!".
I told him the two versions were the same, and explained that the trailing zero in the version number is likely unnecessary and left out of the reference info he was looking at.
Then the tech insisted the version 1.A and/or 1.B would be displayed as "1.A" or "1.B" in the UEFI after install. I think he's wrong because I see no Alpha characters in any examples I searched on line.
Still, can someone confirm what I should see in my UEFI screen after installing the MSI "1.B" version, please? And, if it's supposed to show up as "1.11", why would an earlier version (on my #2 Bios switch), have a greater ID number, (1.7), than the so-called latest version?
This is confusing me all kinds of ways.
Thanks,
Rich
