MSI z97-g45 Compatibility with i5 4690k

Hey everybody i lately bought a new msi z97-45 for a very good price and i was looking at buying the i5 4670k as you it will surely run with my motherboard. But it has been lately really hard for me to get hold of a good deal for a i5 4670k and i was thinking if the i5 490k would work with my motherboard without needing a software update?

Z97 boards were released with the Haswell refreshes in mind (e.g. your 4690K).

There's no doubt it would work with a 4690K out of the box.
