Msi Z97 Gaming 5 and Intel core i5 4690

Ive found posts saying they are and are not compatible this is my first computer build all i need to know if they are compatible I'm not exactly tech savvy but on this link: https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/Z97-GAMING-5.html#hero-overview it says its compatible with Intel core 4th and 5th generation processors

those two will not work together. that is a 4th / 5th gen board, and a 6th gen chip. either get a z170 board for the 6600, or get a 4690 for the z97 board. The processor probably will not even fit in the socket, and if it does I would not want to see what happens.

Intel i5-4690 is 100% compatible with the MSI Z97 Gaming 5. However Z97 is meant for overclocking, but the i5-4690 is a locked chip. You want the i5-4690k.

Why are you buying a Z97 board and an i5-4690k over a Z170 board with an i5-6600k?

im on a budget and i know the z97 is compatible with my case and finding that was a pain so ill stick with this and upgrade later

I assumed that the z97 board was already procured, or it is cheaper where this person is. A K chip is a good move with that board I agree.
