so ive been looking at these two to go together, i know they are compatible together, but my main concern is will they work out of the box together... ive seen that if your mobo bios isnt 1.2 or higher then is won't work and you need to flash it.. this is my very first build and i dont have another cpu or anything to help flash it, so my main concern is will i run into any problems with this cpu on this board or should it come updated by now??

other parts on my build

msi z97 g5 mobo
msi gtx 970 100me gpu
pny 16gb 1866 ram
i7 4790k cpu
evo212 cooler
wd 1tb hard drive
250gb ssd
650w thermaltake psu
and will be using windows 10

Solution
it is more than likely going to have something higher than 1.2 because that came out over a year ago?
That is right, but like I said before nobody knows until you get the MB. If you will buy it from local store, you will use the SN to check it out right the way.
i would hope it comes with atleast 1.2 or later after over a year of being out! it's just kind of worrying me because i have no clue as to how to go about updating the bios if it isnt 1.2... like is there a way to flash the board without having a cpu in it that would work with the lower bios?:??:

are you sure? so the z97 motherboard definitely doesnt come with bios version 1.2 or higher? i swear i've seen people say they were fine with the same processor and board... atleast i now know its possible to update without the cpu ao it shouldnt be too bad right? or is this a complicated thing to do

oops, sorry i think i read your answer wrong, so the z97 isnt capable of being updated with just a flashdrive, but z170 boards are? so essentially if this board doesnt come with the correct updated bios then i need to get a cheap processor to just update the bios? but it is more than likely going to have something higher than 1.2 because that came out over a year ago? that is what i have gathered so far, imm just worried and want to make building this thing as smooth as possible!

okay thanks for the help! i'm going to see if i can find this board in a store to be sure but if not i'll take the risk of getting it online!
