MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Motherboard: Is my RAM compatible?

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if this particular RAM I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220499
would work with my mobo. The RAM is from an old rig that had an x58 motherboard. First I was wondering if I could even use the RAM for my new build. If it is compatible, would I be able to use all three sticks of RAM or would I only be able to use two?

Yes, it is compatable, and all 3 should work fine, however they will not run in dual channel.

Are you sure? Because I just referred to the MSI website compatibility tool and I can't find my RAM as a compatible vendor.

Your RAM isnt there because it is a tripple channel kit and your motherboard doesnt support running RAM in a tripple channel. However, it will still work in single channel mode.

Just as a quick question, is it possible for me to just use two out of the three?

Yes, and then it will run in dual channel.

Yes, but I will prefer the duel channel DDR 3 memory as well!

***It would be best best to use 2x for dual channel for the performance improvement , If you really need the extra capacity use all three but know that the performance will take a decent hit.
