I have a MSI Z97 MPOWER MAX AC that comes with 2 antennas for wifi/bluetooth but the other one is broken. I tried to hook up only 1 antenna to the wifi card but it doesnt work. Will the wifi work without antenna or I should really put 2 antenna. Even on windows...device manager doesnt detect any wifi device

well its brand new..and when i first boot the computer..it doesnt also find any driver

You should try to check to see if you seated the module correctly, as it is a pain in the arse to install. That was an issue I had with my 87/97 MPower ACs - If you haven't installed drivers you should try that first

I tried to intsall the driver but still no luck...still can't detect windows even in device manager...in bios it said that PCIE8 : Empty
does the wifi still works without antenna? or do i need to install the 2 antennas to make it work?

I formatted the hdd before installing windows 8.1 so that it would be clean...but my problem is even on bios it doesnt detect any device...

I check my x99s gaming 9 ac,I found that if you install correct it will have red block cover that area.

PCIE8 EMPTY...maybe you should check your wifi card pin socket is integral and try to reinstall wifi card, pin socket can't have any damage.
ps.Don't forget lock the screw when you install the wifi card on motherboard.

does the wifi still works without the antenna?

you need to install that broken wifi,i think that is fine.
now, your problem is that wifi card pin socket maybe is broken, you should check that.

Have you check with MSI their technical guy?

I had a similar issue. It really was the seating of the device it can seem that it is sitting good but it was not. You really have to make sure it sits good.I had it a couple of time mounted and it was not sitting good even though the screw could be tightened. Make sure none of the pins are bent and really try to align it. Mine works fine without any antennas at all now.

It is really the worst designed part of the whole MB, they could have just as easy included a USB dongle

THIS WILL FIX IT !!

Unfortunately the only bad thing about this board is the wifi / Bluetooth part - such a bad design flaw, I had this issue & initially thought it was broken as I was 100% sure I had attached it properly and screwed it to the board.

However! - this was not the case & I actually had to remove the casing from the wifi part so I could see for sure it was in correctly & it worked first time (you will see it is connected when you boot the bios board explorer as the area will appear yellow to show its detected).

I would also advise leaving the casing OFF as it seems you can easily detach it if you know the back of the PC after you have put it al back together again - meaning you have to do everything again, so leaving the casing off means you can just take the side panel off your PC and reseat it easily (you may need a torch or bright light to see though)

Other alternative is to buy a wifi dongle or card for your board as this issue can cause more hassle than its worth!

The detection problem is not from your damage of the antenna or so, but I think is a hardware design problem.

If you try to reboot it in different ways - such as OS reboot, pressing reset key or even unplug the power cord; you will see the bluetooth dongle can be detected again.

There are a few web sites mentioned about shorting 1 - 2 connector pin to remove the problem permanently, though I have not tried that.

I just have an idea that the "Fast Boot" feature on the motherboard causes the problem. As the description of that BIOS option said, it *disables* some devices or procedures to save the boot time.

I have just turned off the "Fast Boot" (it means both the MSI Fast Boot and Generic Fast Boot) in the Windows 8/8.1 feature page in BIOS. If there is still problem, the only solution will only be a firmware upgrade or hardware replacement in terms of another wifi/bluetooth chips.
