Question MSI Z97A Gaming 7 - OC Genie function

Hi,

Recently I bought a mobo MSI Z97A Gaming 7, to build my son the first Gaming PC

It's a used one, of course, and after reading the manual, I stood back with this info:

"Important
. We recommend that you do not to make any modification in OC menu and do not to
load defaults after enabling the OC Genie function.
. Updating BIOS or clearing CMOS is not allowed in OC Genie mode, and it may
cause OC Genie function fail or other effect."

I don't know if the previous owner enabled OC Genie function, but I think it's very likely that he activated the function, and I really would like to reset the mobo to the factory defaults, to start from scratch.

What should I do, and what are the risks that I will take if I reset the mobo to the factory defaults?

Thanks for any information you can give me.

Greetings from Portugal,
Tiago

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You can clear the CMOS and it should wipe anything on the board in terms of a setting. As for the button itself. if it's a tactile button that's momentary switch(like that on your PC's case) then you have nothing to worry about. If it's a latching style button(like an on/off switch on your wall) then you can push it again and that should disengage the OC Genie profile.
