MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition LGA 1150 RAM Question?

I have a question, does this MB support 1866hz ram even if its not overclocked? Or do I have to buy 1600hz? Will it even post if I install 1866?

Under specifications, it has an asterisk next to 1866 and higher frequencies, what does that mean?

itll have no problem running it, im not sure why the site says that, my buddy has this board and runs dominater platinums on it at 2400hz with no oc

And he has the z97 platform not the x99 platform right?
