Mugen 2 vs V8

I currently have a Mugen2 but am thinking of switching to a V8.

The Mugen2 keeps my i7 920 at a cool 37'C @ idle and under 60'C at load - and I heard the V8 was just as good.

My main concern is the Mugen2 is rather large, and blocks one of my side fans. I heard the V8 is also large, but slightly smaller.

Has anyone had any experience with these two coolers?

Note that many peeps overload the design of their HS by putting on too large a fan and the only real change they get out of it is more noise. The width and spacing between the fins dictates how much air can fit thru them. For best cooling, you want as close as possible to laminar flow. With too much air, non laminar flow is created which can even decrease cooling efficiency as well as create disproportional noise volume.

I am running about 25C at idle and hitting 56C under prime95 w/ small FFT's using a Prolimatech Megashadow and twin Enermax 1200 rpm fans on the HS at 70% of rated 1200 rpm. I had intended to buy 2000 rpm fans until Prolimatech Tech Support sent a very long e-mail explaining why this would be a bad thing. Interestingly enough, they said performance is actually better with HS fans blowing to rear of case, than blowing up and out thru the big 200mm top of case fan.

All case fans are at lowest speed setting and 2 of them are actually missing at the moment. The Proliatech BTW is the easiest HS install I have ever done....tho if I did it again, I would get the Megahalems instead of the Shadow and, of course, would install it with air blowing to back of case....may do the latter anyway as doesn't require MoBo to be removed.

Hi there,
I'm looked at various reviews and the two seems to perform the same. The Mugen2 has also come down in price significantly, to around $40-$50.

My main concern again is having similar performance but also being smaller (shorter) so I can attach the side fan on my case.
