Multi Williams Jamma Help

I just got my MultiWilliams from Arcade Shop, and after playing a few
games, I decided to mess with the set-up. Seeing as mine is in a
Defender cab, I decided to have it startup in Defender. I think I also
changed it to "no escape to menu".
Now I'm stuck in Defender. When I press my test button (or the one on
the board) all I get is a flashing blue screen. My service button does
nothing.

I want to get back to my menu and enable my other games....how!?

There should be a toggle switch beside the credit button (that's a
service credit button there, not a test button if I'm correct). I have
a Multi-Williams also. The toggle switch takes you in and out of the
setup menu.

Don,
Any chance you could tell me what pin on the Jamma connector that
toggle switch goes to?
I wired this game from scratch, including the buttons I put inside the
coin door. I only put buttons inside the coin door for "test" and
"service". I'm not sure what else there could be. Neither of those
are getting me anywhere, and I can't think of anything that can get me
back to menu.

correct if you have the jamma multi williams you have to use a toggle switch
instead of a test button. It has to stay closed for a few seconds to go
into test mode. Maybe have someone hold it in for you make adjustments then
have them let go for quick fix and then you could put in the toggle switch.
I thought they had a pinout on their website cause they did not give me a
pinout or instructions of any kind with my board.

I wired the coin door myself. It had no buttons on it. When I did, I
wired what is labeled as "Test" in the Jamma pinouts to an on/off
pushbutton (same purpose as a toggle). I wired "Service" to a regular
momentary button. Neither of these will get me to the menu, even if I
hold down the "service" one.
If your 'toggle' switch is wired to something other than one of these,
please trace it back to the connector and tell me what it is.

If anyone else has a suggestion, let me know soon. I'm dying to play a
game of Joust

Trin is correct. Arcade Shop does have a pinout list on the website.
It lists the test and service connects. Hope this gets you going!
It's a great machine. I just bought mine at the Knoxville auction.
It's brand new, looks like it was probably from the Arcade Shop.

Ok. I have wired a lot of games, including a couple JAMMA games like
this. I know the pinouts for JAMMA really well. I have already wired
and tried the TEST and SERVICE buttons as recommended.
They obviously work as I was able to get into the menu in the first
place and make these changes.
I just need to know if there is a way to get back to that menu now that
I have it starting up in Defender with no escape/return to menu?

I appreciate the previous posts, but they didn't really help much
because I have already done what they suggest, I simply thought your
toggle was connected to something other than the service or test pins.


Maybe Clay can help me out.

I haven't looked at the multi williams too closely, but is there a
jumper on the board for clearing the settings held in memory, that
would reset everything back to default? Maybe a pin for clearing
"CMOS".

This is more the kind of response I was hoping for...I don't see a
jumper on the board, though. I emailed Clay, because I think he
programmed these boards. I'm wondering if there is something I might
have to manually jumper (with wire)on the board to get it back.
If you can find anything out, let me know.

I'll try to pull the game out tonight if I can and see if I can trace
the toggle switch wires. Sorry you haven't gotten any help with it.

I pulled out my machine and traced the toggle switch. Just as in the
pinout list on Steve's web site the toggle runs to PIN 15. It is
grounded in common with the coin door and the service credit switch.

My board is a slightly older version. There is a jumper setting on the
PCB but I can't imagine why you would need to move it. (it is set in a
position marked Test)

That may be the best I can do. Good luck with the game.

A Google search looks like someone else had your problem before of
being stuck in the Defender game. I attached the google page that
addresses the fix. If this link doesn't seem to work, just do a Google
search for "Multi-Williams settings"

Here was the fix:

With the power off, ground pin 1 on connector 2J3 on the ROM board (the

upper left pin on the upper left connector) and power it up. This
should reset the multi-game completely. Then you can turn it off,
disconnect and start from scratch.
